How to Check if Your Mac Can Run macOS Big Sur

Every year in Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), new updates, products, and features are released and announced worldwide. This year in WWDC 2020, Apple announced the release of the latest version of macOS called ‘Big Sur.’ This is also known as macOS 11 and soon going to be launched. The advantages that macOS Big Sur is incorporating are related to the major updates that are released for Safari Web Browser, Messaging Apps, and updated Maps. A beta version is out for testing the advanced features, since the release of OS X, about 20 years ago, Big Sur is the next biggest release by Apple.

There are several additions to the new OS including curves on the window corners, all-new dock icons, colours formats of the user interface, added control centre in the menu bar, widgets, and notification centre are exciting features that are much awaited.

If you are looking forward to this exciting all-new change in the user interface, you’ll need to have a compatible Mac system to download and run the all-new MacOS Big Sur. Step 1. Click on Apple menu and then select About This Mac.

Step 2. Click on the ‘Overview’ tab followed by the ‘System Report’ button at the bottom.

Step 3. You can also press and hold the ‘Option’ key, and click on the ‘Apple’ menu while holding the key. Click on the System Information page.

Alternatively, you can also click on ‘Go to Finder’ followed by ‘Applications’ and then select ‘Utilities’. Here you can click on the ‘System Information’ icon.

There is one more alternative to reach the system information window. Open the ‘Spotlight’ app, and type ‘System Information’ in the search box and press enter.

Once you reach the ‘System Information’ window, you will find 3 main headings followed by sub-headings of the window.

Hardware: It gives you information about installed or connected hardware peripherals like printers, Camera, USB, Graphics, etc.

Network: Tells you everything about the Network Connections such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Firewall, etc.

Software: Contains a list of all the installed software including the MacOS details.

Step 4. Once you click on the Hardware option on the left-hand side menu, it will give you detailed information about the system. Here you can check Model number, serial number and the version of OS to identify macOS Big Sur system requirements and know if it is compatible with the newly launched MacOS Big Sur.
